IT’S EASIER TO GET
THROUGH A CRISIS
WHEN WE ALL WORK TOGETHER

Holyoake | Non-Judgemental Approach | Caring Environment

As the end of this financial year approaches, we reflect on how challenging the last few months have been.

Like most people, you may have been affected in some way, and we sincerely hope you and your loved ones are safe and well.

While the focus has been on physical health, the impact on mental health has been alarming as well.

Isolation, social distancing, unemployment, and fear have created a difficult environment. Unfortunately, many people have turned to alcohol and/or other drugs to cope. This unhealthy coping mechanism can trigger a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, domestic violence, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, crime, self-harm, and even suicide.

As you file your tax return, please consider making a donation to Holyoake. While these may be difficult circumstances for you as well, remember that every donation over $2 is tax-deductible.

We are living in unprecedented times, but if we continue to support each other in the true Aussie spirit, we will come through this crisis even stronger.

Impact on Children, Partners and Parents

Some may believe people who misuse alcohol and/or other drugs should be responsible for their own choices. Unfortunately, they forget about those who are indirectly affected – especially children, partners and parents.

At Holyoake, we offer customised programs such as Young People’s Program, Relationships in Focus, and Parent’s Program. These free services offer counselling and support to children, partners and parents who are impacted by a loved one’s problematic use of alcohol and/or other drugs.

Life Changing Journeys | Holyoake | Step Towards Life Changing Journey

Sarah is just one example of a life-changing experience at Holyoake.

She and her partner were pushed to the limit by their son’s substance use and gambling issues. She tried everything… doctors, psychologists, and even the police.

Refusing to give up on her son, Sarah then turned to our Parent’s Program. As she progressed through the program, she was able to step back, assess the relationship and set basic boundaries. She learnt how to love her son unconditionally, to enjoy his company and to appreciate his unique qualities without worrying about teaching him life lessons.

The results are best described in her own words: “The progress we have seen in our family has been nothing short of miraculous.”
