Children & Young People
Holyoake offers special programs for children and young people who may be affected directly or indirectly by alcohol and/or drugs or related issues. Our programs include:
Attachment Art and Play Program involves 10 family sessions for caregivers and their child/children who have been impacted by their own or significant other’s alcohol and/or drug misuse. Supported by a therapist, families use art and play to build the caregiver-child relationship, reduce parental stress and improve communication.
Young People’s Program involves 1:1 sessions for young people aged 3-17 years who are impacted by parental or significant other’s alcohol and/or drug misuse. The young person is supported to develop the knowledge and skills to cope with their experiences and foster an increased sense of self-esteem.
Adolescent Program involves 1:1 counselling with a counsellor to support young people aged 12-17 years to address their own misuse of alcohol and/or drugs, and to gain confidence, stay safe and reduce the harm of substances.
Child Parent Relationship Training This 10-session group program for caregivers supports participants to develop a greater understanding of their children’s emotional needs and to communicate more effectively. We use the principles of child-centred play therapy to assist caregivers to parent therapeutically and become the agent of change for their child.
