Moral Reconation Program
Available in: Perth Metro
Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a voluntary, group-based recovery support program for offenders pre- and post-release from metro prisons across Western Australia. The Moral Reconation Program is designed to help participants develop skills, address offending behaviour, and support long-term rehabilitation.
The Moral Reconation Therapy program is based on Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Reasoning and Erikson’s Theory of Personality Development. It is delivered by both Cyrenian House and our team at Holyoake, offering assessment, counselling, and referral services for offenders pre- and post-release. These services are funded through our partnerships and are designed to meet the needs of all individuals, helping them access training, employment opportunities, and community support.
Each group is facilitated by two specialist trainers who will guide participants through the twelve steps of the program, which culminate in setting goals and planning for the future. The program helps people:
Our Moral Reconation Program provides a structured rehabilitation process where each participant is assessed and supported according to their individual needs. It’s suitable for a range of people, including those with a history of offending behaviour, trauma, or substance abuse, providing many suitable pathways for men, women, and Aboriginal prisoners. Completion of MRT can help individuals understand their offending, develop skills for reintegration into the community, and plan for a positive future.
This rehabilitation program generally takes around 16 weeks to complete and is open-ended, so participants can enter the groups at any time to support their transition from custody and reduce the risk of re-offending. Additionally, ongoing support and supervision are offered to further reduce the risk of re-offending.

The Moral Reconation Program is typically 16 weeks, but the flexible structure allows participants to join at a suitable time for them. This makes sure that the process meets individual needs and supports successful reintegration.
Offender rehabilitation programs, like the Moral Reconation Program, are designed to provide assessment, training, and support, helping prisoners develop skills, address substance abuse or alcohol issues, and plan for employment and life in the community after release.
