Adolescence is a period of transformation and maturation from child to adult. The word ‘adolescence’ comes from the Latin word ‘adolescere’, which means ‘to grow up’. During this time, significant developmental changes occur both physically and psychologically. Some challenges include decision-making, taking on new responsibilities, peer pressure, forming new relationships, developing identity, and other changes.
It can be a confusing time!
Holyoake offers each young person a safe environment to talk confidentially about any issues impacting their life. For those whose lives have been affected in any way by drug and alcohol use, Holyoake provides support, information, and strategies to develop and continue their emotional and psychological growth.
Our program is a comprehensive and confidential alcohol and drug service designed specifically for young people and their families. We offer a variety of drug services, including assessment, counselling, rehabilitation, and transitional support tailored to the needs of youth aged 12 to 17.
Based in East Perth, we offer a wide range of treatment services to support young people aged 12 to 17 who are affected by alcohol and other drugs.
Our mission is to empower young people to improve their health and well-being. We accept self-referrals and referrals from family members, schools, hospitals, and other agencies. By providing a supportive environment, we aim to help young people navigate the challenges they face and build a brighter future.
Our treatment approach is centred around the individual child and their unique needs. We use a child-centred approach with trauma-informed care that focuses on the child’s experiences and emotions.
Services such as children’s counselling, counselling for young people, and our play therapy services are designed to help children develop self-esteem, learn new social skills, and process trauma and challenging life experiences. We also work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, educators, and healthcare professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.
Every child has a right to live without violence, be cared for and be protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
We’re committed to child safety and well-being and maintain child-safe and child-friendly environments, implementing and completing self-assessments aligned to the National Principles of the Child Safe Organisations 2019 framework, as developed by the Commissioner for Children and Young People Western Australia. We recognise the unique needs of each child and work at their pace to ensure they feel secure and understood.
At Holyoake, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for young people to heal and grow. Our services are free and confidential, and we welcome young people and their families from all backgrounds.
Our program offers a range of benefits and outcomes for young people and their families, including:

Yes, the Young People’s Program is free of charge for young persons and their families. We’re here to help by offering free, personalised help for anyone who needs it.
The program uses trauma-informed and child-centred approaches to address the emotional and psychological needs of young individuals, as well as struggles such as those with teenagers and drugs or teenagers and alcohol.
Services focus on improving self-confidence, social skills, and coping strategies while fostering empathy and self-respect.
Trauma-informed care recognises the impact of past traumas on a young person’s life. This approach ensures that the support we provide is sensitive to these experiences, creating a safe and understanding environment for growth.
