The South West region is the most populous and economically diverse country region in WA. Famous for its world class coastlines, the Region also boasts large farming and forest communities in the inland areas with approximately two-thirds made up of state, national and regional parks, and 25% occupied by agricultural and rural uses.

There are currently four Community Response Committees established in the South West.

  • Harvey – The Harvey CRC has completed their first LDAT Community Action Plan involving the development, implementation and evaluation of a Community Perception Survey (CPS) into community concerns regarding AOD. This project culminated in the delivery of the Harvey Family Fun Day, in collaboration with the Shire of Harvey, that was well attended by 250+ community members. Data from the CPS will be used to inform AOD prevention activities for the next 12 months through the development of their new Community Response Plan.
  • Nannup – The Nannup LDAG CRC has been progressing well with the completion of their Community Response Plan and implementation of two funded projects, the Nannup Youth Zone, incorporating the Soggy Bones Skateboarding workshop, and Manjimup YARN Day. A successful grant application has also been submitted to fund the delivery of DV-Aware and Accidental Counsellor training to the community in September and October 2025 respectively.
  • Collie – The Collie AOD Prevention Network is in the process of finalising their Community Response Plan and has recently submitted a successful grant application to fund a vulnerable youth wallet card project that will provide free pool entry throughout the summer months for eligible young people. Young people will also be supported to develop a logo design for swim bags and merchandise that will be funded through the program.
  • Warren (Manjimup) – The Warren Safer Communities Network has only recently endorsed the decision to become a Community Response Committee and will look to develop a Community Response Plan of community-led AOD prevention initiatives in the next few months.

The South West Community Engagement Officer is currently meeting with community members and stakeholders in Capel, Dalyellup and Donnybrook regarding the potential establishment of Community Response Committees. If you are interested in being involved in a Community Response Committee in these communities, one of our established CRCs or would like to discuss potential opportunities in your local community, please contact Corrie on cwright@holyoake.org.au.
