DRUMBEAT® Program Overview

The purpose of the program is to provide consumers with a safe environment in which musical non-verbal therapy is delivered to build resilience and well-being in at-risk consumers. The program explores a variety of module topics, including relationships, identity, community, emotions and feelings and teamwork.
Consumer types include:

  • Primary and high school students
  • Youth centres
  • Juvenile justice centres and prisons
  • Mental health services
  • Aged care services
  • Disability support services
  • Returned servicemen and women
  • Refugee and migrant support services
  • Corporations

A range of outcomes have been identified as a result of participating in the award-winning DRUMBEAT® program. These include:

  • Reduced anxiety and psychological distress
  • Improved emotional regulation
  • Improved self-esteem
  • Provision of a constructive means of self-expression
  • Increased commitment and perseverance towards group and individual tasks
  • Increased sense of belonging and connection to community
  • Increased group cohesiveness and collaboration skills
  • Improved understanding of the range of human emotions and healthy expression of emotions
  • Improved social skills, including listening, problem-solving, sharing and empathy
  • Improved awareness and understanding of boundaries
  • Recognition and understanding of healthy relationships and unhealthy relationships
  • Increased awareness of the diversity of human experience and tolerance of difference

While we don’t currently offer DRUMBEAT® in WA, Holyoake continues to explore ways to deliver DRUMBEAT® in the future in a commercially sustainable manner.
