Our SMART Recovery support program provides a safe, non-judgmental environment where people with alcohol and other drug dependencies can come together, support each other, and access mental health services to regain control of their health and lives.

About the SMART Recovery Group Program

This confidential, evidence-based recovery training program, delivered by accredited SMART Recovery facilitators, is open to anyone seeking support groups in Perth for further consolation.

Participants are invited to join peer support groups that provide a structured environment for sharing experiences and learning from each other. Participants are also invited to attend weekly peer-led group counselling sessions that help individuals set weekly goals and develop practical coping skills in a safe environment so they can:

  • build and maintain motivation and self-esteem
  • understand and cope with triggers, urges and cravings
  • manage unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours
  • lead a balanced life and develop a healthier sense of self.

The program also emphasises self-help, encouraging participants to take an active role in their recovery journey.

How it Works

SMART Recovery isn’t an abstinence-based program. Instead, it’s designed to help people find new ways to deal with life’s challenges in a healthy, sustainable way through smart meetings that use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to support participants in focusing on the present.

The group is inclusive and a safe place for open discussion. Each session is different, with participants discussing the previous week, finding a goal (that’s small yet attainable) for the week ahead, and then working on how to make it achievable.

These smart meetings are structured to provide a supportive environment where participants can discuss their progress and set new goals. We use various tools and worksheets that can be applied to everyday life to create new routines that work for each person.

It’s a welcoming, encouraging experience that inspires and empowers participants. It provides practical support that builds coping skills, confidence, and self-esteem. The group is also completely confidential: What’s said in the group stays in the group, and participants are only asked to share whatever they’re comfortable sharing. No notes are taken, and only first names are required.

Attending a SMART Recovery meeting can be a transformative experience, offering practical support and a sense of community.

Benefits of SMART Recovery Meetings

Our SMART groups provide a safe space for individuals to share their experiences and connect with others who understand their struggles with addictive behaviours.

These meetings foster a sense of community and belonging, which is essential for anyone on a recovery journey. Participants benefit from the education and resources on mental health and addiction provided during the sessions, which help them better understand their conditions and develop effective coping strategies.

Guided by trained facilitators, SMART group meetings offer support and guidance throughout the recovery journey. The inclusive and welcoming environment ensures that all participants feel comfortable and supported regardless of their treatment approach or background.

These meetings are also tailored to specific populations, including those dealing with mental illness, providing a safe space for individuals to express themselves and process their emotions.

Attending SMART Recovery meetings can be a valuable addition to traditional treatment approaches, offering a unique blend of peer support and professional guidance.

Whether you’re just starting your recovery journey or looking for ongoing support, SMART groups can help you find the support and guidance you need.
