Individual Peer Support
Available in: North East Metro Perth Metro Wheatbelt
Peer support for people addressing their alcohol and other drug (AOD) use is available as a standalone support service or as a complement to the support provided by a counsellor or a medical team.
Our team can connect people with a peer support worker who has lived experience of AOD use or dependency, someone who can walk side by side with an individual on their alcohol or drug recovery journey, including ongoing support during and after treatment.
The support worker will work collaboratively with the individual to achieve their goals, providing encouragement and advice and helping them develop:
This support can play a crucial role in recovery, giving people someone to talk to and confide in with confidence, a peer with first-hand experience of the challenges of alcohol and drug use and the associated mental health risks.
At Holyoake, we accept many referrals from counsellors or healthcare practitioners. You may also send a self-referal to us by contacting reception on (08) 9416 4444 or at clientservices@holyoake.org.au.
If you are struggling with your mental health or AOD use, Holyoake can support you in all stages of your journey. We offer a range of mental health resources at Holyoake.
A peer worker uses their own lived experience in mental health to support and encourage others who may be experiencing challenges in their life. Peer workers offer emotional support, inspire hope, and reduce stigma.
Individual peer support is when a person with lived experience provides emotional support to others going through similar experiences. It is a mutual understanding where people facing mental health or life challenges can share stories and coping strategies.
