Street Names for Drugs – What’s in a Word?
Whether you’re a parent, family member or health worker, the slang terms or street names for drugs used for alcohol and other drugs can be incredibly confusing. There are well over 60 ways that people reference cannabis alone!
New drugs and shifting culture mean that new terms and slang are always emerging. To help cut through the confusion, we’ve put together a list of common drug names and slang terms used by clients, young people, and community members. This resource is designed to support clearer conversations and help you feel more confident when discussing these issues with others.
Slang terms for drugs can differ depending on the region, state, or country, and the same word may refer to different substances in different places. Some slang can also carry stigma, so it’s best to use these terms only in the way the people around you use them.
