Billie left prison behind and turned to the future.
Methamphetamine Program and Individual Counselling for Adults
Billie first engaged with us while incarcerated at a women’s prison. She participated in a voluntary six-week psychoeducation program on methamphetamines before engaging in a longer, intensive program exploring both her substance use and criminal conduct.
Our program’s facilitators could see Billie’s eagerness to participate, learn and develop personal insights. She consistently impressed them with her dedication to self-improvement and her willingness to bravely explore thoughts and experiences that made her feel vulnerable – parts of herself she had long locked away.
After completing this program and having made real progress in reducing her risk of re-offending, Billie volunteered to complete a further AOD intervention. Her participation in through-care counselling showed her determination to re-integrate into the community safely and start a new life.
Billie’s physical and mental health fluctuated during her time with our counsellors. She endured the loss of family members and relationships. But she never gave up. And now, she has re-entered the community with confidence.
What’s more, long after Billie completed the program, our facilitators continue to share her wisdom with new group members. Her letters to her past- and future-self carry words of wisdom and hope for women commencing their journey of change.
