If methamphetamine use has started to take more from your life than you expected, or you’re worried about someone close to you, you don’t have to work it out on your own. Holyoake provides free, confidential counselling for methamphetamine addiction across Perth and regional Western Australia. No referral. No judgement. Whenever you’re ready.
Our approach to methamphetamine counselling in Perth and regional WA
At Holyoake, we believe there’s always a way forward. Our drug counselling for methamphetamine addiction is built on the Holyoake Approach, a person-centred, evidence-based model that treats you as a whole person, not a diagnosis.
Methamphetamine is a stimulant that comes in several forms, including powder (often called speed), base and crystal (often called ice). Whatever the form, regular use can affect sleep, mood, appetite and relationships, and cutting back can feel harder than expected. If you’re looking for support with ice specifically, visit our page on counselling for ice addiction.
Methamphetamine is one of the most common concerns people bring to us, so our counsellors understand how it can ripple through every part of life. We’ll focus on what matters most to you, whether that’s sleep, work, family, money or your mental health. Our counsellors are trained in trauma-informed care and harm minimisation, so you’ll always be met with respect, not labels.
Methamphetamine use and mental health are often closely linked. Anxiety, low mood, paranoia and trouble sleeping are common, and they can make it harder to change your use. As one of the few WA organisations offering integrated alcohol, other drug (AOD) and mental health support under one roof, we can support all of it together (sometimes called dual diagnosis or comorbidity).
How our methamphetamine counselling works
You don’t need a referral, a diagnosis or a decision to stop before you reach out. There’s no lengthy waitlist process or paperwork hurdle to clear first.
We’ll start with a conversation about what’s been happening and what you’d like to change. From there, your counsellor will work with you on a plan that suits your goals and circumstances, whether that’s reducing harm, cutting back or stopping altogether.
Your support options
Individual counselling: One-on-one sessions with a qualified counsellor. You set the pace. Evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing are tailored to your needs.
Telehealth: Sessions by phone or video are available, so you can access support from anywhere in WA, including rural and remote areas.
Withdrawal support: At our Midland location, we can connect you with a referral pathway for home-based withdrawal support, so you don’t have to go through it alone.
Family support: If someone you love is affected by methamphetamine use, we’re here for you too. You don’t need to be the person using to reach out.
Support can start, pause and return at any time. You’re in control.

When to seek help for methamphetamine use
You don’t need to wait until things feel out of control. If methamphetamine use is affecting your wellbeing, your relationships or the things you care about, that’s reason enough to talk to someone.
Some signs that professional support might help include:
Using more, or more often, than you planned to
Feeling exhausted, low or irritable for days after using
Cravings that make it hard to focus on anything else
Anxiety, paranoia or trouble sleeping
Missing work, family commitments or things you used to enjoy
Loved ones expressing concern
Money, housing, relationships or legal matters being affected
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, around 200,000 Australians aged 14 and over used methamphetamine or amphetamine in the past 12 months. At Holyoake, amphetamine and methamphetamine were the main drug of concern for 34% of the people we supported in 2024-25, second only to alcohol. You’re not alone, and reaching out is a sign of strength.
What to expect in your first session
Your first appointment is a relaxed conversation, not an assessment you can pass or fail. Many people arrive feeling unsure, and that’s completely okay.
Your counsellor will ask about what’s been happening, what matters to you, and what kind of support you’re looking for. You don’t need to have stopped using before you come in, you don’t need to bring anything, and you don’t need to have a plan. We’ll work that out together.
